Extra Credit for English 245
In this class we have discussed the various stories of the Bible and their impact on literature, art and music. In a 2-3 page paper, take a work of art and analyze its connection to the Bible. For instance, you can look at the movie Last Temptation of Christ and write about the aims of the director in presenting the story as he did (i.e. humanize Jesus) and the aims of the writer of the Gospel of John (i.e. deify Jesus). Or you may take the novel by the same name and analyze the internal struggles of Jesus as compared to the struggles depicted in the Bible. You can look at comic books, movies, television, popular music, novels, short stories, plays, paintings, sculpture, installation pieces, etc. The point of the extra credit assignment is to analyze the connection between the Bible as a work of art and your chosen piece of art as a representation of the Biblical tradition/narrative.
