Most Significant Professional Accomplishment (aside from teaching)

$500, 000 in grant funding from l993-l995.

My experience as a grant writer underscored the power of the written word and of collaboration.  Despite the absence of contacts, HFCC teachers were able to obtain first-time funding from agencies such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, and the National Science Foundation.   Such an accomplishment was made possible by the creativity of my colleagues. Rick Bailey, Mike Daher, Deb Zopf, Barb Near, and many others demonstrated that community colleges can compete successfully with universities.  I am most proud of the FIPSE grant --we were one of 56 projects selected from a pool of over 2700 applicants.
