Michael Daher, an instructor, specializes in 19th-century American literature and serves as the Chair of the HFCC Honors Council. He has taught full time on the elementary, secondary, and university levels in metropolitan Detroit, and has served for two years as a senior Fulbright Professor in Damascus, Syria. His research has focused on Henry David Thoreau, as well as on the themes of work and leisure in American culture. In the latter capacity he has explored Henry Ford’s role as icon. Daher’s work has also concentrated on the image of Arabs in American culture, as well as on comparative analyses of American and Arab cultures. He has been active in public cultural work, including National Public Radio features and commentaries, Public Broadcasting System television courses, and gallery exhibitions. With National Endowment for the Humanities sponsorship Daher has initiated a Great Works Curriculum project at HFCC, centered on a sophomore Great Works seminar in the college Honors Program. |
