Philosophy of English Instruction:

In order for students to be successful in college writing courses, it is important that they first understand writing is an art form; it is a creative process.  Just as a painter must master form and technique to create a portrait, a writer must master the rudiments of writing to develop a paper.

Teaching Style:

I like to use a conversational style when teaching.  For me, this approach engages students and allows for better discussions as they relate to topics students explore in their writing assignments.

New Course Offering:

English 236 - American Autobiography  This course will introduce students to published essays, narratives, autobiographies, memoirs, journals and/or diaries by Americans who have significantly influenced the social, cultural, and political composition of America.  The course will also examine issues such as gender inequality and religious institutions that compose American society.

This course meets the General Education Outcome # 1:  American Society, Events, Institutions and Cultures and is transferable to other colleges and universities.
